10 Practical Ways to Show Love in 2018

by Damilola Oguntunde

Good morning Friend,

I’m glad to announce to you that we would starting a new series today. It is titled: 10 practical Ways to Show Love in 2018. It’s going to be an exciting one and I believe we will begin to act on the lessons learned as soon as possible.

Let me use this analogy to further illustrate my point. There is a beeper in Gods heart that is connected directly to your heart. Every time your heart is moved in love, especially in ways that affect another person positively, God gets a Warm Hearty Beep on His beeper. Let’s just say God has as much of a good day as often as His beeper beeps… and let’s just say you’re His only subscriber. Now if you are His only subscriber… when was the last time God had a good day on your account?

Our world is filled with so much selfish and sometimes religious pace that we hardly pay attention to people around us that we could make an impact on. We consistently skip over opportunities to be a blessing to someone, just in a bid to attend to something “urgent”, perhaps something “spiritual”. Remember the story of the good Samaritan that Jesus narrated of the Priest who conveniently walked past the injured victim, perhaps because he needed to be early for prayer at the synagogue? My dear, when you appear before the throne of God, all your achievements will be non-existent, no matter how lofty they seem to be right now, all your wealth will be pointless, even your Church “service” will also be a waste if it is void of the most important ingredient; LOVE. By all means, pursue success and lofty achievements, God wants you well. My last series was all about how to achieve success God’s way this new year so I’m totally for huge, massive, jaw-dropping success because that’s what God desires for all of His children. My charge to you however is that you do the things that count as often as possible.

Sometimes, walking in love may seem a bit vague and esoteric, that is why I have decided to point you to 10 practical ways you can show love in 2018. They don’t cost much, that’s if they cost at all and the beautiful feeling of fulfillment and joy you stand to receive far outweighs the sacrifice of deliberateness on your path… not forgetting the fact that you get God’s beeper beeping all day on your account, that’s just awesome isn’t it?

For the next few weeks, we would be sharing some of these very practical love tips. Are you ready?

1. Learn to Gift Everyone a Genuine Smile: Now, when I say “everyone”, I don’t mean you just plaster a copied smile that is ever in a “ready to paste” mode on your face, else you risk looking like “someone “they” are doing” (You should convert that to Yoruba for better comprehension… lol). I personally believe that a smile is the shortest distance between two people. It bridges the wide gaps of hostility, and oils against the potential for friction in any interaction between people. It’s the most affordable gift you could ever offer anyone. Nothing sounds better than a very hearty cheer and laughter. My brother has this very contagious laughter, and I seem to be his successor in that department. Be easy to gift everyone and anyone a good smile. It shows you value them, it shows you are comfortable with them and also shows you are willing to be of help to them if they need you. If there are 10 attendants on duty at a store and I need direction on something, I’ll instinctively approach the attendant with the most welcoming gesture or smile. She communicated those three aforementioned values to me by simply smiling at me.

When you are quick to gift someone a smile, you realise that the Joy and Peace you have bottled up all these years while only praying in tongues and casting out devils will begin to find some good outlet for expression. You feel refreshed and somebody gets blessed in the process. This is one very practical way to show love in the year 2018.

2. Pray for Someone Who Doesn’t Know You’re Praying for Him/Her: This is one of the most profound ways of showing love to God’s children. When the concerns of a member of the body becomes a burden for you and you take it personal. Galatians 6:2 When you do that, it really does touch the heart of God and they Bible says we obey the Law of Christ. Do you know how parents feel when their children show love to one another? They feel good because it’s a direct reflection of how they have loved the children over the years. By this shall all men know that we are His disciples, when we love one another. When Abraham took upon himself the lot of Lot and began to intercede on his behalf, God was so touched that He couldn’t shun Abraham or refuse him had he pressed on in the mediation. When you go to Church, your workplace and perhaps any other social space, look out for people who the Holy Spirit lays upon your heart to minister to and remember to pray for them. Sincerely, this is only possible through the help of the Holy Spirit but it is possible. Imagine the joy that sweeps across your heart when you hear someone share a testimony on something you prayed for him/her about.

I remember once praying for a friend who didn’t know I did and she eventually came forward to share the testimony… I could barely hold it together (yeah I can be emotional at times), not like I cried o, but the thing “tosshhh” me sha. I felt so joyful over someone else’s matter just because I was involved in the process that birthed the testimony. There is a lot of love in your heart and doing this will further give expression to that love.

The series continues next week. Create opportunities to act on these two smart love tips this week and I’d like to get your feedback. God bless your heart. Have an amazing week ahead.

Galatians 6:2 (NKJV) Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
