Jew, Greek or Fool

by Damilola Oguntunde

Good morning Friends.

I trust you have had a very productive week. By God’s Grace today, we would be sharing on what I title “Are You a Jew, a Greek or a Fool?”. I trust God to make His Word come alive in your spirit as you read this life transforming article.

Someone just read that and immediately retorted by saying “None of the above brother!”, but I can assure you that you are either a Jew, a Greek or then you must be a Fool. Lol. I fought a couple of times back in secondary school, and both times was because someone called me a fool. I seriously detest the thought of being referred to as a fool. If you’re like me, perhaps that’s about to change. So, are you a Jew, a Greek or a Fool? Someone is probably wondering what I’m driving at… I’m not trying to mess with you, I only seek to bring a verse of scripture to life in your experience.

These are the three categories of people we have in the world at any point in time and you definitely belong to one of these classes of people. Don’t be quick to answer the question until we’re done with this teaching.

A Jew in this context isn’t simply someone with a Jewish decent, the Bible gives us a good understanding of who a Jew is. For all you care, you may be Nigerian, Ghanaian or American but you may as well be a Jew. A Jew in this context is anyone who requires a sign to believe in what God has already declared done. The Bible says that the Jews require a sign to believe in the gospel. When God declares His eternal counsel to them via The Word, they say “show me, let me see, give me proof, etc” They seek proof to validate a reality that is already established. Your denial of a reality that is true in the spirit will not make the reality any less true, it only limits your ability to enter into its experience. Because ultimately, only those who believe will receive. The Jews always require a sign. They have been used to signs and wonders, perhaps the most privileged to witness the most outstanding miracles among any known nation on earth. They are used to being amused by the spectacular that when the highest essence of God’s reality (His Word, Hebrews 1:3) shows up, they miss Him by more than a mile. They expected a spectacular arrival and a host of chariots to convey this “Savior of the World”, but they see a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes… and they are disgusted! They go home feeling scammed. That’s the real deal Sir, that “helpless” baby is the savior of the world. That simple word spoken casually by your Pastor, Friend or Spouse carries the algorithm for your breakthrough… only if you do not despise it. We have all been Jewish in our outlook to the things of God in the past. When God does it, then I’ll believe… you say. Stop subjecting God to litmus tests thereby turning yourself into a “science student”…lol. Learn to believe Him solely based on His Word to you.

So, if you’re not a Jew, what are you?

A Gentile/Greek? The Gentile seeks after wisdom. Oh, no generation has ever been as Greek as this generation. When it stimulates their intelligence and fascinates their inclinations, they holla and shout but are left twice as empty. I don’t mean this in a bad way, but that is the reality of head-puffing and stimulating “revelations”. When it sounds logical and well thought out, then it makes sense and hence, should be believed, but there lies the problem. The challenge with this paradigm is that there can never be establishment therein. The proof of establishment is Character/Experience, not mere knowledge. Remember the folks at Athens? They warm up to every “new” teaching, only that they are not willing to let go of the one they last acquired, therefore they never get established in any. For them, it’s about the gathering of a collection of artifacts and not the sacred guarding of an antique. They hop from book to book seeking answers, always seeking more for their never satisfied itchy ears like excited atoms. The Greek seek after wisdom, but we preach Christ, crucified on a couple of sticks, buried in a borrowed tomb, did a 3-day horror vacation in hell and stormed out on the third day… and the Greek cannot just handle it. It’s too foolish! How can you tell me God became a man and then God died and went to hell so that I could be saved? How could such a “conspiracy theory” ever sell? Well, fools like me will buy it.

1 Corinthians 4:10a (KJV) We are fools for Christ’s sake…
1 Corinthians 1:22-25 (KJV) 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness;24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Friends, sometimes only the fool will receive the power and the wisdom of God for them, as they are the only ones whose mind will not get in the way. So, again I ask…

Are you a Jew, a Greek or a Fool?

Have a super abundantly blessed week!
