Daughter Lessons

by Damilola Oguntunde

Good morning Friend.

I trust you had an exciting weekend. Today, by God’s Grace, we will be learning something quite fundamental. I have titled this “Daughter Lessons”. You may be wondering who this “Daughter” may be… she is perhaps one of the most popular characters of the Bible whose name is more like a sentence than an actual name. People call her “The Woman with the Issue of Blood”! Thank God, Jesus was not party to that but chose to call her “Daughter”. Mark 5:25-34

There are some really powerful lessons we can learn from this profound character in the Bible, whose faith brings hope to many lives.

1. There is no such thing as a hopeless situation: We find this woman in a seemingly “hopeless” situation where she had expended all the livelihood she spent all her lifetime working for on trying to restore her health. She tried to secure the best of treatments from the best of Doctors, but guess what? She grew even worse. It was as though, the more money she spent on it, the worse it became. If you have gone to the best specialists in the world and you didn’t seem to get better, what else could you possibly do? Yes, money answers a lot of things, and oh yes medicine is a gift from God to man for preservation until we find out the more excellent way, but Money and Medicine have their own obvious limitations. Money failed this woman, medicine failed her, her family deserted her, she was not only stigmatized, she became the stigma. She was an object of absolute reproach. Nobody wanted to have anything to do with her. People covered their nostrils whilst she passed by as the stench from her blood-stained garments was unbearable. She had done everything within her “known” capacity but it did not improve her situation… I wonder how and why she had not become suicidal. What really was she doing alive? But glory to God, a living dog is better than a dead lion… as long as you have breath, you have hope… as dead, hopeless and miserable as the situation seemed, thank God she didn’t throw in the towel. She lived yet one more day, hoped one more hour, believed one more moment and bam!!! Jesus was passing by…

2. You must hear about Jesus: For many people, once they feel slight symptoms in their body, they rather check google and fill themselves with dissuading statistics of the mortality rate of the likely disease that now plagues them rather than hear about Jesus. Nothing in the world, can replace your heart felt concentration on the person and the message of Jesus. Miracles are birthed in the womb of a passionate desire to pursue and seek God relentlessly. This woman knew there was a possibility beyond money and medicine, just because she heard about Jesus. Hearing about Jesus made her realize that there was another option, it changed her paradigm and she gathered the little energy left in her body to seek after this Jesus she had heard about. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word. You must be committed to the hearing of the Word, especially through your own mouth in order to engineer your own healing and breakthrough. In dire situations, what and who do you listen to? What do you read? Will you not seek the Balm in Gilead? There is a reality that enters into that within the veil… yank off the google connect and enter into His presence, meditate on His Word to you, listen to messages that speak about healing, stay strong in faith, stay persuaded and you will see the hand of the Lord.

3. Prepare for oppositions: Aliens do not come into a territory to be accommodated or squatted, aliens come to infiltrate, weaken, attack and completely annihilate their host/victim. Sickness is from the pit of hell; its mode of operation tells us exactly what source it came from. Sickness will not stop until it completely destroys. You are the one who must be stronger than the resolve of sickness and disease. It may seem like the hardest thing to stay strong in faith after you have been diagnosed with a terminal disease but push beyond the barriers and seek to touch His garment right in the midst of opposition. Symptoms may be shutting you up and trying to mock your faith, but don’t give in, keep pressing on, keep making those confessions, keep moving towards Jesus, towards your healing and your guaranteed restoration. No alien will leave its host without a fight, so prepare for opposition but be stronger than them. Learn to turn to flight the armies of the aliens by Faith, Hebrews 11:34d. The woman had to shrug off a lot of bodies on her way to Jesus, she did not allow that deter her, she pressed on and she was eventually rewarded with her healing.

4. Don’t just touch and go, connect with Jesus: The woman simply wanted to touch and go, at least she now had what she sought, but Jesus wasn’t going to have that. He wanted to connect with her on a deeper level. So, now that you are healed, Jesus would like to meet you, know your name, change your identity and hang out with you some more. It is the light radiating from the face of Jesus that keeps sickness far away from you. Don’t just touch and go, only to return for another touch. Why don’t you just never leave Him, why don’t you stay with Him and watch the alien that will raise its ugly head. Many people get healed, touch the garment and just leave only to come back to the same healing line some months down the line. They don’t stay in the Word and learn to behold the face of Jesus thereby withstanding the wiles of the enemy. Don’t just touch and go beloved, connect with Jesus and you may never have to travel so far to touch Him.

I hope these thoughts blessed you. God bless your heart. Have a fantastic week ahead.
