GOD FORBID

by Damilola

Before you begin with this post, for better understanding, I advise you read the previous two. I believe It will be good value for your time. Today I hope to explain and clarify a general misconception about the message of Grace in this post I tag GOD FORBID. Many believers are more like in a fix when it comes to this message of Grace, they don’t want to delve into it, they believe there are many grey areas. They think to themselves, “if God has forgiven all my sins; past, present and future sins, as i hear these preachers say, won’t it license me then to keep sinning?” And of course, no-one who genuinely loves God will be comfortable to preach a gospel they believe licenses sin. So yes, it’s a legitimate concern to not want to preach the gospel that “seems” to license sin.

The challenge however, is that God doesn’t need our protection, He only demands our proclamation of the true Gospel. We not understanding the message of the Gospel is at the root of the matter, else there’ll be no fear or concern about whether it licenses sin, as long as the truth is properly taught. People asked the apostle Paul in his day as well, about whether all these his sermons about Grace Grace Grace would license people to sin, his answer was always an emphatic GOD FORBID. Which is a very strong negation, it’s like the strongest form of total disagreement Paul could express to his hearers at Rome. Sin sent His Son to hell, how could He license sin? Sin killed God… Once though, Rev 1:18, but now He lives forever. So if it’s not a license, what then is Grace? Grace is simply an empowerment over sin, and a freedom to please the Father. Here’s another piece of daddy vs junior saga.

Dad: Hey junior, come over here my son. Hmmn… I want to tell you something very important. I want you to KNOW that there’s nothing you can do that can ever get me angry with you. You will always be my son, no matter what you do, I have loved you with an ever lasting love. I have given you my nature, and everything you need to be exactly like me. It’s in your DNA to be like me. Just KNOW that I’m already pleased with you. Don’t try to impress me, you’re my son already, just be yourself, because in being true to yourself, you’re revealing me. I will always be with you, and you will always be my son. I love you buddy…*hugs and kisses him*

Junior: *after leaving the father, goes to his friend* Ope o, you know wetin my papa talk today? Im talk say e no go ever vex for me, say im love me die! Say nothing wey I fit do, go vex am… Chai, i just dey happy… abeg make we go shack jare my guy. Na to dey chop the life of my head remain be that. Shacks, babes and money… Hahaha (apologies to those who can’t read in pidgin)

Now we all know, that that’s a very wrong response to the Father’s Love, and no proper son will respond like that. Now, did the Father say all that so Junior can waste his life on debauchery? Definitely not. The Father’s focus however was for the son to KNOW, how much his Father loved him, and how much like his Father he already is, which will help Junior and make him begin to act like his father, and that’s why Romans 6, (the chapter of the bible that most deals with the fact that Grace is no license for sin) keeps reiterating the phrase KNOW YE NOT, KNOWING THIS, KNOWING THAT…

Rom 6:3
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

Rom 6:6
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Rom 6:9
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

Rom 6:16-18
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Paul’s response to any carnal church, even in Corinth was always this phrase KNOW YE NOT? Your actions don’t change your nature, but an understanding of your nature will alter your actions positively. I’d advice you study the whole chapter of Romans 6. And be mindful of the tenses. “You WERE” alone could be a deliverance for some of us… Like in vs 17. Do you KNOW what happened on the cross? Do you KNOW how certain Jesus made your salvation? Do you KNOW how dead you are to sin? vs. 7. Do you KNOW how impossible it is for you to sin? 1John3:9. You couldn’t possibly KNOW all these and keep sinning, except you never believed. And that’s why the Gospel is all about KNOWING what Christ has done for US, cos if you KNEW better, you’d ACT better. The Gospel of Grace is not a license to sin (people had been sinning without a license before Grace came), however, it’s an empowerment over sin, and freedom to please your Father. Romans 6:14.

My next post will be Tagged “JESUS DIDN’T DIE 2,000+ YEARS AGO”, I’m sure that’d be a “BLOGbusrter”, and it’d bless you. Thank you for following this thread of posts on the website, I really value your readership. Have a great weekend.

Its a very imperative and sensitive topic which needs to be reiterated in churches in this dispensation.
Revival is needful else some of our churches are heading towards what the Bible described in Rev.2V1-5. May we receive more grace not to take His Grace for granted IJN.
Great write up. You’ve been a blessing sir.
