Grace Borne

by Damilola Oguntunde

Good evening DP readers, it was a splendid weekend for me. Service was awesome, my team won, “Chelsea one two Cry”(I hope you get that), how much better could my weekend turn out? Hehehe. So we’re still on meekness, and I’ll be giving some insight on how as believers, we can always maintain a posture of humility towards God at all times. I remember saying that humility is a virtue that guarantees proper reception from God’s Word. We would have to constantly cast down our own imaginations and thoughts that exalt themselves against what God has called us and then receive our God given identity with meekness… 2 Cor 10:4-5, James 1:21. If you spell P R I D E, you’d notice the letter “I” positions itself right at the very center of the word. So pride is simply being too conscious of “I”, that is being selfish. Magnifying your opinion above God’s and others’. You must constantly remember that you’re not the center of the world. Humility is not proven by choice of attire, voice pitch, and other physical tendencies, like I said in the Friday’s post, it’s ultimately a posture of the heart towards God. So how do we endeavour to maintain a stable and consistent meek posture towards God? I would say it’s simple, but not exactly as easy… I found a scripture that if well thought about, would Really help us develop a humble attitude.

John 3:27(KJV) John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

How could one live his or her life with such a mindset and have the opportunity to be proud? Pride is usually a product of an over bloated estimation of one’s relative importance. If you indeed believe that everything you have, own and will ever own comes from God, how could you now begin to think of yourself more highly than you ought? You know the beautiful thing about HUMILITY, no-one can be saved without it. God made It such that we would never be able to attain unto such a standard of perfection without His help, we couldn’t possibly boast about salvation, it’s a free gift. It knocks off every sense of boasting or pride…

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

No one boasts of a gift. You can’t take pride in something you were freely given. Again, i say that pride comes from an over estimation of one’s relative importance. If you really know God is the source of everything you have… Your family, your money, your influence, your intellect, your relationships, your health, your investments, etc, how could you now begin to act like you’re the source of those things? Humility is almost automatic when a man lives with the John 3:27 mindset. God’s Grace was apart from man’s effort or contribution. He decided all by Himself to save humanity from destruction, redeem our lives, bring us back to Himself that we might be with Him forever. What a loving father we have In God? It’s really hard to be proud when one is overwhelmed by how much God has done for us His children. Humility is Grace borne!!!

1 Chron 29:13 (EASYENGLISH): Now we thank you, our God, and we praise your great name. 14 But I am not a great person and my people are like nothing. But we are able to give all these things to you. You gave to us everything that we have. We have only given back to you some of your own things.

Here, we see how David described the indispensability of God to himself and the Israelites. He obviously believed it is always a privilege to be able to give unto God out of the abundance He has given us. It’s funny how today we actually believe we are the ones giving unto God, not knowing that everything we have comes from Him. In the kingdom of God, it takes humility to become and stay great while pride is the beginning of destruction. The power of meekness can never be over emphasized. Jesus says one of the basic things we need to learn of Him is His meekness and Humility.

Matt 11:29(KJV) Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

There’s so much to say about this Humility virtue that I could go on and on. As Christians, we really have no business trying to prove to people that we are humble, only God can be the judge of that. Trust me, all those God ever used for the long haul to do great things had to humble themselves under the hand of God. God is not joking about uplifting you, He just needs you to give up on yourself and finally trust Him. Humility precedes greatness, produces boldness and provides honour in any man’s life. You cannot really be humble and remain small. God’s Word stays true.

Prov 15:33(KJV) The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility. Prov 18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility. Prov 29:23 A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit. James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. 1 Pet 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.

Notice James and Peter say we should humble ourselves in the sight of God and not in the sight of men. This is good news for me, because it frees me from men and ‘releases me to please God. Humility is an indispensable virtue for every believer, you’re meek in your spirit, you just need to release what you already have. When you really understand how much God has done for you, it will genuinely produce humility automatically, now that’s a Grace Borne Humility. I believe this has blessed you… Please do well to share it with your friends and family. God bless your heart. Have a productive week ahead.
