Handling Prophetic Moments

by Damilola Oguntunde

Good morning Friend.

I trust you had an exciting weekend.

Today by God’s grace, we will be considering a topic which I have titled, “Handling Prophetic Moments”. I pray that as you pay attention to these words, your heart will be filled with light and understanding in Jesus name.

There will come a time in your experience when you will need to handle a prophetic moment and how you handle such moments go a long way in determining the trajectory of your life afterwards.

What are Prophetic Moments?

They are moments where the Supernatural invades the physical realm thereby giving a man of faith the opportunity to engage God for results that are practically illogical, unnatural and abrupt! These moments are not very common as they are not the dominant way God intends to relate with His children. No believer can survive, i.e live on regular prophetic moments, however, every believer should always be poised for a supernatural invasion when they show up. That is why we need to be taught how these moments can be handled and maximized. They are not the regular occurrences that happen on a regular basis, they are usually clandestine and abrupt, completely determined by the move of the Holy Spirit. Something akin to the “Bethesda Water Stir Moment”.

One very common thing about such prophetic moments is that they are quite short-lived and volatile, one moment they are here and the next they’re gone. Another very important thing to note about these moments is that they don’t repeat themselves. They are very unique in themselves and tailor made for situations and circumstances.

Let’s check out examples of some Prophetic Moments in the Bible and glean some valuable lessons while we’re at it;

1. Melchizedeck Meeting with Abraham: That was one very prophetic moment in scriptures. Nobody prepares you for a prophetic moment. No-one informs you ahead of time that you will have one. They are usually sudden and seem to just happen on you. One very important element when handling a Prophetic Moment however, is sensitivity! If you’re not sensitive to the things of the Spirit, you will miss out on many Prophetic Moments. I am certain Melchizedeck didn’t appear in angel apparel, but how did Abraham know that the person with whom he spoke was an epiphany of God in the flesh? He was sensitive to know that the person before him was not one of the Kings he was dealing with, this was the King of Salem, one who had no decent, after the order of an endless life. Such moments are entirely dependent on our sensitivity. We must ensure we don’t miss them. One way to stay sensitive to the leading of the Spirit at such Prophetic Moments is by praying a lot in the spirit.

2. Abraham and the Three Men: Abraham being our Father of Faith had so much learned the art of maximizing Prophetic Moments that he couldn’t miss when three men showed up in his neighborhood, as he perceived that a Prophetic Moment was upon him. He is the only man who successfully got God to eat a physical meal… and how well did God relish that meal. God enjoyed the meal so much he couldn’t be offended when Sarah laughed about the promise of Isaac. That seemingly casual visit heralded the birth of Isaac. One very key element to notice here was Abraham’s large heartedness and hospitality. If you’re not hospitable and large hearted, you will miss many prophetic moments. Even Jesus made it clear that our hospitality have eternal significance as every time we do good to those in need, we literally minister to Him. Please, be quick to offer help when you observe someone needs it.

Because these moments are very exclusive, only folks who demonstrate above-the-line virtues stand the chance to maximize them. Remember what the servant of Abraham asked of God when seeking a wife for Isaac? Those were above-the-line virtues. They will come in really handy in prophetic moments.

Hebrews 13:2 (NKJV) Be not forgetful to entertain strangers, for thereby some have entertained strangers unawares.

3. Moses and the Burning Bush: One profound element required in handling Prophetic Moments is curiosity. Some people are too occupied to be blessed. They’re too busy to be distracted by a prophetic moment. Thank God Moses was curious enough to realize the strangeness of a lit but not burning bush. Many people would never have noticed the bush was actually not burning as long as they saw fire. Moses was curious enough to step aside and check out the strange phenomenon. If you read the story in Exodus 3, you will see something like this;

Exodus 3:2 (NKJV) And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So, he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. 3. Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn” 4. So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said “Moses, Moses”…

This passage shows very clearly that if Moses had not turned aside, God may never have called out to him, because the Bible makes it clear that it was when he turned aside, that God called out. Can you believe that the destiny of the entire nation of Israel rested on Moses’ curiosity? Curiosity is golden! Ask questions, seek to know, those questions sometimes lead to unforgettable encounters and discoveries… Ask Sir. Isaac Newton.

As we conclude, I’ll like to emphasize the place of humility in handling Prophetic Moments. Without humility, one will be very dismissal of very hallowed moments. It is the overarching virtue requisite for Divine Encounters. Make no mistake friends, God will visit you with great blessings in His hands, but will you be sensitive enough to maximize them? Will you be warm enough to entertain angels? Will you be curious enough to seek knowledge when God is wooing you into the consciousness of the supernatural realm?

I pray you stay sensitive to maximize the prophetic moments God is bring your way this very unique season in Jesus name. Amen.

Please do well to share with friends. God bless your heart. Have a productive week!
