Good morning Friend. I trust you had a great weekend. Today by God’s Grace, we will glean a bit more from the story of the Cross. One thing I will like us to understand about the Cross of Jesus Christ is that it serves as a DNA prototype for every Christian’s walk with God. This is why Jesus repeatedly said, whoever must follow Him must deny himself, carry his own cross and then follow. How Jesus dealt with His Cross helps us understand how to effectively carry ours.
Matthew 16:24(KJV) Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
This was further repeated in Mark and Luke. If I can see how Jesus went through the Cross, which was His destiny, then I can better understand how my destiny works. If I can look unto Him, the author and the finisher of my faith, then I can draw inspiration from how He carried His Cross and paid the costly price for our salvation. Now, I do not mean to say that we all must bear the consequences of our sins or that we all must pay the price for our own salvation like many teachers have wrongly taught. Jesus paid the eternal price for my sin and its consequences. The wages of sin is death, which means that the consequence of sin is death, Jesus not only bore my sins, but also bore the consequence of sin which was death. So I have no business paying for a debt twice. It’s called the Law of double jeopardy. Jesus paid for my sin fully… And that is not the type of Cross He is asking us to carry, no man could carry that; that was why He came in the first place.
However, Jesus is saying here that if we see how He carried His Cross, we can draw patterns from it and prepare ourselves to bear our own individual purposes in God. So now to the lesson… Funny yeah? All I did up until now was to lay a foundation, but I’d like you to follow me closely and we’ll wrap up shortly. I’d like to bring your consciousness to the power of a known identity. Many times, people just say “the power of identity”, but I believe identity has no power until it’s known. What good can an undiscovered identity do? We see Jesus on the night of His arrest display the overwhelming power of a known identity.
John 18:4-6 (KJV) Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?
5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
When the armed men from the chief priest arrived at Gethsemane, they couldn’t identify Jesus, but by the time He was done introducing Himself, they were flat on their faces to the ground. They couldn’t handle the Glory of the same God who introduced Himself as the I AM to Moses in the burning bush. This was the same God who performed devastating plagues in the land of Egypt to the trepidation of neighbouring nations. I AM isn’t just some two short words put together before introducing yourself. I AM is the source of all identities. From Him, we all draw our meanings. This is why He is the “I AM that which I say I AM”. It may not make sense to your sense of grammar, but every demon in hell sure knows the power in that office. It’s more than a name, it’s an office, glory to God. When they heard that introduction, they fell under the power of that force. GOD knows He alone is the I AM. Jesus never ceased using the I AM phrases during his earthly ministry. I AM THE RESURRECTION AND LIFE, AS LONG AS I AM IN THE WORLD… I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD, I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE, I AM HE…
Do you know who you are? The world cannot handle the force that comes from you discovering who you really are. Every obstacle in front of you is still standing because you haven’t introduced yourself to them the God way. Do you know what God has called you? Have you meditated on the reality of your calling, your position in Christ Jesus and your identity in the spirit. I hope when you’re done telling the world about who you are, they won’t leap on you and leave you wounded and naked like the ignorant sons of sceva. Have you soaked yourself into the consciousness of who God has called you? If you do not know what your I AM is, then fulfilling purpose may be far fetched. There is a lot of power in I AM… God has begun the sentence for you, just find your place in God and complete it. I don’t know about you… But
