Leadership of the Spirit (3)

by Damilola Oguntunde

Good morning Friends. I trust you had a great weekend. My sincere apologies for missing out on last week’s post. I was a bit overwhelmed with some work and couldn’t make the deadline, and I also didn’t want to come up with something shabby. I do hope I’m forgiven. Thank you guys! So we’ve been dealing with “Leadership of the Spirit “ in the last couple of posts and it has been quite interesting isn’t it? We basically have been doing a lot of killings… hehe. Oh yes, we have had to kill about 3 really fat sacred cows who had been sitting on the valve of revelation knowledge in many believers’ lives in the Christian faith. Today we will go a step further in this series of teaching and I trust God to help me communicate these eternal truths with clarity and simplicity.

I have seen many believers literally lose their minds to some other man who they believe has one “word” for them or the other. It is NEVER God’s delight to see another man take the place of the Holy Spirit in another believer’s life. It’s actually a high level of fornication for a mortal man to begin to interact with the deep and intimate things that belong exclusively to God in another believer’s life. The things only God and that believer ought to discuss have now become subjects of erring prophecies from the lips of peddlers of falsehood. To begin to tell a man direct instructions that ought to be given by the Holy Spirit is an attempt to make the recipient dependent on you for direction for life and purpose… That is absolutely wrong. Every man must learn to be like John the Baptist who ALWAYS directed the attention of ALL men back to Jesus. He was never at the center of his message. Jesus was always magnified and given His proper place in the lives of those he ministered to. That’s the role of every ministry gift in the body of Christ; to show and lead every man to the fountain of living water Himself and let them come with their vessel to drink of themselves. Any attempt to replace the ministry of the Holy Spirit with your prophetic ministry is a direct confrontation with God. God is jealous over His own and would do anything to guard that exclusive access He has to them.

The fulcrum of today’s teaching is to understand that Jesus is at the center of the Leadership of your life. Anyone who doesn’t exalt Him is not meant to be listened to, talk more of followed. He alone is Lord and Master. No man occupies that significant role in our lives apart from the One who gave up His life for us in the first place. Now that is exactly what the Holy Spirit does; He ALWAYS reveals the person and the Words of Jesus. The primary function of the Holy Spirit in your life is to REPEAT. Yes…. to repeat what Jesus has already said to you.

John 14:16:26 (KKV) And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Jesus calls the Holy Spirit another Comforter because He was also a Comforter to them. The Holy Spirit didn’t come with an agenda of His own to execute, He only continued with what Jesus already started in their lives. This is the simple way we distinguish anyone who speaks by the Spirit of God from those who don’t. Anyone who speaks by the Spirit of God will put Jesus at the centre of his message but those who call Jesus accursed, I. E not to be reckoned with, are definitely not of God. There is only ONE syllabus that the Holy Spirit works with and that is The Word of God. Anything outside that syllabus will NEVER be mentioned by the Holy Spirit. Now I’m not saying He cannot be more specific than the general Word, especially with things that have to do with where to live, who to marry and whether or not to invest in a business… Those are quite specific and may not be stated expressly in THE Word, the Holy Spirit can get that personal with us but again I say that the Holy Spirit doesn’t work beyond the limits of the bandwidth of the Word of God. His primary assignment is to reveal Jesus and exalt Him in EVERY way possible.

John 16:13-16 (KJV) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

In John 14:17 Jesus said the world CANNOT receive the Holy Spirit because they cannot see Him (does that remind you of some folks who won’t believe until they see clearly and hear loudly? See the previous post for more insight), but that the disciples see and know Him because He (The Holy Spirit) is with them and SHALL be IN them. Now that’s profound! Jesus says the Holy Spirit is already with them and it’s just a matter of time and He shall be in them. It simply means Jesus was the perfect representation of the Holy Spirit while Jesus was here on earth and EVERYTHING Jesus did, it was the Holy Spirit doing them. Acts 10:38.

To be led of the Spirit, we must understand this token; The Holy Spirit has no other agenda apart from revealing Christ through His Word. This would bring us to the next installment of the series. You don’t want to miss out on it. I do hope you were blessed by this. Do well to share with your friends and loved ones. They will thank you for it. God bless you.
