Good morning Friend, how are you doing? Today, we continue with the series on the Leadership of the Spirit. The series started with the killing of some sacred cows which hinder how we can be led by the Spirit of God. In the last post, we emphasised the fact that the Word of God creates the boundaries of the dealings of the Spirit in our lives. Without the Word, the Spirit is without a voice, because He only says what Jesus has said. He may of course reveal more of it, deeper dimensions of it, introduce us to higher realms of understanding and take us through broader scopes of His thoughts but He NEVER says anything that The Word hasn’t validated. We validate spiritual things by the Word and not vice versa. Today we would be considering further the importance of the knowledge of God’s Word and how we can be led by the Spirit.
The Word of God is the compendium of God’s thoughts. Getting familiar with His Word gives us a basis to further hear him. If one has not learned to receive and understand the voice of God through His revealed Word, how can he get specific with us? Many people desire to hear the voice of whom they have not understood. It is the Word of God that gives us a good understanding of who this God is and how He runs His Kingdom. Without understanding Him this way, we would not be able to Judge the things we seem to hear from Him. If I don’t know my Father very well by fellowship, if someone brings a message from him, I can not effectively judge if it’s really from my Father or not. But if I know my Father very well, I can easily tell if he was the one who sent the message or not. This is why we MUST study the Word of God for understanding and proper knowledge of who He is.
Jeremiah 9:23 (KJV) Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD
When we understand God through His Word, we can judge all spirits and every voice, because there are many voices in this world, but which one are we plugged to? His WORD is that calibration tool that tunes us to the frequency wave of God. I for one have been supernaturally directed by simply remembering the Word of God. Many times, when we find ourselves in a situation and we seek direction, we usually expect God to speak some very specific words to us, like we want the word to have our specific name on it, but I want to assure you that no personal word from anyone, no matter how specific and accurate carries more potency than the Holy Spirit bringing to your remembrance, Words written in the Holy scriptures. Peter puts it this way, he said we have a more sure word of prophecy, surer than the spectacular things that happened on the mount of transfiguration. That if we pay attention to the written Word of God until the day star of that Word breaks loose in our hearts, we will enter into the realities of the revelation we have received. The Word of God is the fulcrum of the leadership of your life. Without it, you’re AWOL. You’re lost. When a man doesn’t have God’s Word in His heart, He has simply taken away the only tool the Holy Spirit must work with and thereby rendered Him ineffective. The psalmist puts it this way…
Psalms 119:105 (KJV) Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
The Word of God is the lamp for my feet today, for daily instructions and dealings. It is what I need in the immediate, as well as what will sustain me in the path of the future. It is the light to my path as much as it is the lamp to my feet. The Word of God isn’t just relevant for the faith of today but also for the hope of tomorrow. It shows us the way to live our lives. If a man doesn’t practice the Word of God as a lifestyle, why should God interrupt His life with a specific Word. Even if God did, the likelihood is that he won’t hear because he doesn’t consider God in his equations on a normal day. When we base our whole life on the Word, it becomes remarkably easy for us to hear God specifically. You need to be in Nigeria before you can ask for the address of a specific place you want to visit. The place of the Word of God in the directional path of a believer can never be over emphasised. That’s the reason why we didn’t jump into explaining the several ways God speaks to us. Usually when we hear of topics like how to be led by the Holy Spirit, we immediately think of different ways God speaks to us, like through dreams, visions and the inward witness which are not wrong in themselves but without this foundation we are laying, we can get all the different channels of direction and still be misled.
Heb 1:1-2 (KJV) God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
In time past God spoke and led His children through the prophets but Glory to God, right now He speaks and leads us through His Son who is the Word of God. That’s just profound! When we make the Word the basis of our lives, the margin for error in every area is minimised to the barest minimum.
Psalms 119:9 (KJV) Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
Stick with the Word and enjoy seamless leadership of the Holy Spirit in your life.
