New Creation Prayers (13)

by Damilola Oguntunde

Good morning Divine Perspective Readers. Trust you had a great week. Going straight into today’s post, we will continue with the New Creation Prayers. I remember mentioning in the last post that the place of personalities, abilities, talents, gifts and passion will be discussed in subsequent posts. Our talents and gifts must not be seen as the primary determinant of our purpose, else we run a risk of being confused, and tugged to and fro by every passion we seem to develop. Our energies wane when they are pulled here and there. There is only so much a mortal, physically bound man can do in the time realm, and that’s why we needed a purpose. Time makes purpose meaningful, purpose won’t mean anything without the time constraints.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV) To every thing, there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

Purpose is tied to time, and that’s why we can’t afford to be confused and clueless. We do not have the luxury of time to experiment with every wave of passion, interest and talent that we develop. Your life is purpose driven and time bound, never forget that. Jesus said His purpose was tied to time in John 4:34, 9:4. He said He must do the Works or Purpose of Him that had sent Him while it is day for the night cometh when no man can work. As believers, especially the youths, we need to begin to pursue our purpose with a greater sense of urgency. Your purpose is bigger than your family background, your pedigree, your social status or political class. Your purpose is stronger than your emotion and your convenience. Modecai had to rebuke Esther and wake her up from slumber, reminding her that her appointment in the palace was not for pleasure but for a strategic move of God to deliver the Jews from Haman. Convenience might even be the biggest hindrance to your purpose discovery, but God didn’t call you to convenience, but to influence. You were put on the earth for such a time as this. There is no other person, past, present or future who looked, looks or will ever look like you do now, that tells me that no one else has been called of God to do exactly what He assigned you to do. All you have is NOW and you must begin to maximise it to glorify God. Many a youth have no more goals than financial ones. That’s just pathetic really, if all we live for on earth is some paper with another man’s image on it… paper made from trees over which we have been given dominion, then a lot is wrong with our thinking. Our lives were meant to be lived for Jesus, the one who hung on a tree for us, and not for mere survival. Listen to this… no matter how rich you ever become, if your primary motivation in life was money, then you never really lived.

Gal 2:20 (KJV) I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Our lives are to be lived for God’s glory and not for our gratification. When God opens our eyes of understanding and we begin to know the Hope of His calling for our lives, then we would begin to make some really audacious and atimes, dangerous statements. Paul said woe was He if he did not preach the gospel, because that was his primary assignment. He wouldn’t be “woed” for not doing any other thing, but for the purpose for which God had called him. If he defaulted at preaching, then woe was he. What a commitment! Those who stand for nothing fall for everything, but those who stand for something will remain steadfast in the harshest seasons. It’s a pathetic thing for money to run our lives, life is much more than raiment, food and shelter, life is about the kingdom of God and His agenda for mankind. You’re a big part of that and you should pursue God’s heart and plans for you.

As much as God did not choose you because of your charisma, personality, talent, and passion, 1 Cor 15:10, 1 Tim 1:12-14, the Grace of God is totally responsible for the call… He has wired you with the right composition and balance of those tendencies in order to fully service your purpose here on earth. Thank God Paul was the choleric type A personality type, who had little or no tolerance for laziness, lack of commitment or lack of focus, he would have become easily distracted from his life’s call. He had a serious argument with Barnabas over John Mark, just because young John Mark showed lack of commitment in one of the previous missionary journeys. Only a Paul could have been dogged enough to have written about two third of the New Testament, his passion for persecuting the church was literally transferred to his passion for the preaching of the gospel and that was revolutionary. Nothing is wasted in God. Peter didn’t have to be less vocal because he became an apostle, he was even more empowered by the Holy Spirit to speak boldly. When you discover God’s call upon your life, you will also realise that all the gifts and talents He ever gave you will fuse automatically into the ultimate purpose. Esther wasn’t called by God to be a model or a queen, she was called to be a deliverer, but she needed to be queen to be the deliverer. Don’t ever shortchange your call for your gift, they are worlds apart.

Psalms 139:15 (KJV) My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest part of the earth.

God meticulously crafted you and graced you with certain abilities and gifts that will enhance the fulfilment of His call upon your life. You’re powerfully gifted and blessed. David was such a blessed man. He was a singer, an instrumentalist, a song writer, an instrument maker, a financially prudent man, a great public relations officer, a very loved model, a soldier, a warrior, a leader, a commander, a king, a priest and a prophet. Some of you are probably wondering where I got all that from? Well, the same Bible you read, it’s all there if you look closely. If you were just as gifted as David, and you spent 5 years to experiment in each area of your passion, in order to know which was the call of God for you, you sure would have grown grey before you discover it. You really don’t have to experiment with yourself before God reveals what His call for your life is. Remember the fulfilment of God’s purpose on your life is time bound, and that’s why it needed to be specific. David was anointed by God to be a King, a King whose presence is dotted across scriptures. He did what God called him to do, and while doing that, he expressed all of God’s divine abilities locked up in Him. He was not called to be a singer, or a song writer, or a model, or even a prophet, but while he was being the KING God anointed him to be, all his innate abilities found expression. This is what God’s Word says about David;

Acts 13:36 (KJV) For David, after he had served HIS OWN generation by the Will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto the fathers, and saw corruption.

David served his OWN generation. Do you even know your own generation? Who are those God sent you to? Those are your generation. David served HIS OWN generation according to God’s will for his life and God endorsed him. He lived life to the fullest. He’s the kind of guy you’d speak of as “seen it all”. He might not have been perfect, but he was perfect enough to be chosen as a “Joint Father” with God to Jesus. Jesus was either called “The Son of God, or The Son of David”. God has called you, God has called you for a time and a generation, God has called you for a purpose, God has called you for glory. Not every one will be a preacher, pastor or minister, but everyone has been called of God to serve and fulfil a purpose on earth. We must all find it while it is day, for the night cometh when the work will be there waiting for you, you will also be there trying to fulfil it, but there will be no strength to do the work. Please keep praying the prayer of Paul in Eph 1 so the eyes of your understanding will be enlightened to see the Hope of His calling for your life. As you begin to pray that prayer genuinely… I am 100% sure, God will visit you with His Word. In our next post, we will talk about something you really don’t want to miss. I love you, have a fabulous weekend.
