New Creation Prayers (14)

by Damilola Oguntunde

Good morning Divine Perspective Readers. I’m sure we’ve been learning quite a number of things in this series. As much as I know that prayer isn’t the most interesting topic to the average Christian, it’s one of the most important, and should be emphasized as such. If there are any 2 pillars that hold the Christian Faith together, they are Word and Prayer. They are so indispensable that Peter could not afford to be distracted by other pressing but less important duties, like serving tables and welfare. A Christian with a weak prayer life will find it difficult to resist the devil during temptation. Jesus said, “pray… so that you do not enter into temptation”. That means prayer is a huge antidote against temptation. For the past few weeks, we have been considering different perspectives to prayer, our perceptions about God that hinder our prayers, the priority of prayer, the focus of prayers, the hope of our calling according to the Pauline Prayer in Ephesians 1, the place of personality, talents and abilities in fulfilling God’s call upon one’s life, and so many other dimensions with respect to prayers. According to the Pauline Prayer in Ephesians 1:15-23, we were able to conclude that the 3 basic things God wants to reveal to us in the place of prayer are:

1. The Hope Of His Calling
2. The Riches Of The Glory Of His Inheritance In The Saints
3. The Exceeding Greatness Of God’s Power Towards The Believer

We have been on the Hope Of His Calling for a while now, and trust me, it’s been a great time in the Word. We have seen how important it is, even to God for us to discover His purpose and call for our lives and how we can discover it. If you have not been following from the outset, then I will advise that you check out the past 13 posts (I know that’s a lot, but reading through them will sure help you, I can assure you.) Today, we would be looking deeper into the most profound way of discovering God’s plan and purpose for our lives. This for me is the most reliable, most powerful and as well as the easiest way to discover God’s call upon our lives. It has worked for me and several other believers alike even without their knowledge. If someone asked me for the ONE THING he needs to do to discover God’s call upon his life, this is the ONE THING I will tell him to do. Just so we understand how really important this point is.

James 3:4 (KJV) Behold also, the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, withersoever the governor listeth. 5 Even so the TONGUE is…

This is one of the most powerful principles I have ever discovered in the Bible ever since I began studying it. Here, this verse is explaining to us, the dynamics that take place which makes it possible for a big massive vessel like a ship to sail and be directed on water. As big as a ship is, the entire mass of it is controlled by a small helm. This helm is probably smaller than a car steering in some cases, but it’s responsible for the direction of the whole ship. The Bible then compares way the helm controls the ship to the way our tongue controls our lives. When it comes to the direction of a believer’s life, the tongue is the most important factor to consider. This is why after the infilling, the first thing the Holy Ghost takes over, is your tongue. He knows if He can take charge of your tongue, then He can direct your life. The way the whole body of the ship is controlled by the small helm, that is exactly how the Holy Ghost wants to take over the direction of our lives through our tongue. If God is going to use your life to a significant extent, then He has to be indeed Lord. Osward J Smith in his book said; “If God is not Lord of all, then He isn’t Lord at all”. That is why the Holy Ghost makes speaking in tongues the first step in your Holy Ghost experience. Many people have never seen it this way. Praying in tongues is one the most beneficial spiritual use you can put your mouth to. As a matter of spiritual fact, the primary use of your mouth is not for feeding and talking, it’s for praying in tongues and communicating directly to the father. This is the coasting zone, or auto cruise dimension to fulfilling God’s plan for one’s life.

Isaiah 28:11 (KJV) For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. 12. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing:…

The reason why praying in the spirit is key for direction is because it is the ONLY opportunity for a believer to PERMIT the Holy Spirit to align his life to the perfect will of God for his life. God will not impose his will on you except by your authorization and cooperation (we addressed this extensively at the beginning of the series). When the Bible says in Romans 8:27 that The Holy Ghost makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God, what it meant was that the Holy Spirit takes hold together with us in prayer (in the original rendering) to project our desirable future. He cannot do that without us, and we are clueless without Him. Tongues is the spiritual courier that conveys divine blueprints into tangible realities. Everything about your life… past, present and future all resides in the memory of God and He alone knows the end from the beginning. However He cannot intrude on your space, because as much as He has good intentions and thoughts towards you to bring you to an expected end (Jer 29:11), you have got the authority over your life on this material earth. He cannot force His will on you, but through tongues He can wield your mouth to begin to permit and implement His perfect plan for your life, even without you knowing. God gave me this analogy for the purpose of understanding and clarity. We are the Builders, He is the Architect. The Architect is the head of the building team because he gives the direction, model, pattern and plan. The Builders only execute what the Architect has mapped out. The Architect cannot build, if all he has got is only a model. The Builder cannot build as well if he’s got no plan. That is why…

Jude 20 (KJV) But ye beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.

We are the builders, but He provides direction, plan and purpose for our building. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, that is we do not know what or how to build, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with words that cannot be articulated into human language. We might not know for sure and for now, the real purpose of God for our lives, but one thing we can do right now and not be wrong is praying in the Holy Ghost. No man has ever spoken in tongues amiss, you can’t make mistakes in tongues. It has absolutely zero margin for error. When you’re in that zone, you can be said to be in the perfect will of God. When you pray in tongues really often, you will realize that the mistakes you make will greatly reduce in all areas of your life. When you pray in tongues, the Holy Ghost is given permission to begin to arrange the events of your life. The right people begin to come into your space, the right opportunities, the right situations and things will begin to change for the better for you. You see, this is the most remarkable way God wants to lead His people. He said with a stammering lips and an unknown tongue, He will speak to His people. God wants to lead you through tongues more than any other means. No wonder Paul prayed in tongues so often that he was bold to say he spoke in tongues more than the Corinthians, now whether he meant that he prayed more than the whole church collectively, or that he prayed in tongues more than anyone among them, that is still a whole lot of praying in tongues. No wonder he always hit target with God’s direction for his life, he always seemed to know what to do. This is one of the most salient advantages we have over the old testament patriarchs. God had no other way to lead them than through their understanding. God had to speak through almost spectacular ways like the burning bush, an ass, an audible voice, etc… which meant that they could get their flesh in the way and try to fulfill God’s plan their own way. But for us in the new testament, we are led by thee Spirit without a hint to our mind except of course we pray so that we may interpret. When your mouth (staff of authority) collaborates with the Holy Spirit, great things happens, and the most vital part is that the steps of a good man are being ordered by the Lord. Tongues is the closest anyone will get to the purest Faith experience of God… Building up yourself on your purest form of assurance, praying in the Holy Ghost. Glory to God. We would talk more on tongues in our next post. Have a great week ahead.
