New Creation Prayers (6)

by Damilola Oguntunde

Good morning DPR, I believe you had a great week. We continue on the New Creation Prayers today. I Hope you’re not bored just yet, because we’re just getting started. We’re just bringing the bird from the pocket… hehehe. So relax and anticipate every post like it were the last and relish in each one as though it were the very first. Let’s learn never to get familiar with the Word of God. A great man once said, “the proof that you know it, is in your desire to want to hear it again and again”. Many people think that because they’ve heard something once, then that means they need not be reminded or told again… in actual sense, the reverse is the case… they don’t want to hear it again, because they’ve hever really heard it. No-one says, “I have had fried chicken before, I don’t want to have it anymore, let me have the lungs of a snail for a change…” That would be funny, wouldn’t it? The same way man lives by bread in the physical is the same way he ought to live by the Word in the spiritual. I really don’t know why I’m impressed to dwell a bit more on this area… We live in a dispensation where if the average attention span of the average youth were to be measured and put in a thimble, the thimble will be twice as empty. Pastors are constantly under pressure to keep churning out new concepts and ideas in ministering to the young folks, which in many ways is good, but this trend shouldn’t instill in anyone the idea that the Church was instituted to amuse man. People go to church these days for some reasons that are just really funny. You’d hear some people say things like, “the pastor is not funny… it was boring”, the Pastor wasn’t called to be funny, he was called to be a shepherd over the souls of brethren bought with the price of Jesus’s precious blood. If you had such magnitude of an assignment to handle, I doubt you’d have the most part of your sermons dedicated to jokes. Pastoring is serious business, if one wants to be entertained, there are always enough concerts and rib cracking events out there one can attend. One can be in a very humorous church and a desperately weak one for that matter.

Jer 3:15(KJV) And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall FEED you with knowledge and understanding.

We see here that the primary responsibility of a pastor is to feed God’s people with the knowledge and understanding of God’s Word, and not to amuse them. So the next time someone asks you about how service was, please remember to respond in the light of your understanding of the purpose of the Ministry Gifts in the Church. Enjoy the company of the saints in your local church, don’t be critical of your pastor, you too should look for ways to make services more interesting and energizing, love and honour him/her, and you will realise how much of a blessing (s)he has been to you. I really don’t know why I went down that route, but I believe it was for someone. So now to New Creation Prayers, we’re just getting to scratch the surface of our discuss and I trust we’d have a great time digging. It doesn’t take too long to realise that the dominant tense in the New Testament is the “Past” one. As a new creation, we must understand how different we are from those that were under the old covenant. We are not better than them because of anything special about us, we just simply have a better covenant, founded on better promises. Their testimony couldn’t be complete without our dispensation. They looked forward to what we look back on. They looked forward to the cross and kept on looking, until they all died in Faith, believing the intangible reality of the Christ, Heb 11:13, but today we look back on the cross and can only be full of gratitude for the manner of love God expressed to us through Jesus on a couple of sticks in Golgotha. Therefore we can relate with the fact that the epistles were written by the apostles with a very strong consciousness of the “PASTness” of their sins, iniquities, sicknesses, diseases, poverty, lack, depression and every evil work. If we don’t know that the victory Jesus purchased for us at Resurrection is valid for all eternity, then the devil will still take advantage of our ignorance and oppress us. The way a new creation which we (Christians) are, should pray ought to be completely different from the way prayer was done before Christ’s Resurrection and Ascension.

Hebrews 4:14(KJV) SEEING then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

When it comes to Prayer and every other thing as a matter of fact, as a new creation we must always see things relative to Jesus Christ and His redemptive work on earth. It says here that seeing then that we have a high priest that is passed into heaven, that is Jesus. Remember that one of the primary responsibilities of the High Priest in the old covenant was to offer sacrifices and incense unto God, which is representative of prayers in the new covenant. When we pray, what are we seeing? Or better put, who do we see? What influences how we pray? Here we see that it is our seeing Jesus that must affect the way we hold fast our confession or profession or prayers. If you see Jesus to gain perspective in praying, you wouldn’t be asking Jesus to heal you, you will know He already healed you several years ago before passing into heaven, you won’t be begging cancer to leave your body, you will command the foul spirit to leave your body instantly and it will obey you. Nothing changes your prayer life faster than an understanding of the redemptive works of Jesus. God is not thinking about blessing you, He’s not thinking about making you fulfil your destiny, He’s not even worried about you… Glory to God! You only get worried about things you have no understanding of their outcomes. But blessed be God and Father of our Lord Jesus who has blessed us with ALL spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, hallelujah!!! He knows our outcome. He knows what we would turn out to be, He’s got the master plan in his hands. Our future is in His memory. That’s the kind of God we serve, nothing ever catches Him unawares. Jesus made sure for our destiny fulfilment when he rose again. He was the first to fulfil His eternal destiny, thereby opening up the frontier of fulfilment in Christ. Prayer is a thing of confidence and boldness because therein our new creation realities are unveiled even more to us and we just know some things down in our spirit. We just know we can’t be poor, we just know we cannot be sick, we just know we can’t fail, we just know these things because… SEEING then that we have a high priest, that is passed into heaven, Jesus the Son of God…

Eph 2:12 That at that time ye WERE without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:13 BUT NOW IN CHRIST JESUS YE who sometimes were far off ARE MADE NIGH by the blood of Christ.

We must understand the tense of redemption in order to fully explore our prayer advantage. Grace and Love helps you put money in the bank, Hope tells you there’s money in the bank, Faith and Prayer goes to withdraw that money from the bank. That was an illustration I got while meditating recently, and it just got me so excited. In Heavenly places, no one single Christian has more spiritual resources than another Christian, none! But we all have varying degrees of withdrawal rate.Every believer has equally inexhaustible riches in glory, but while you’re on earth, you don’t need the riches in heaven, you need them here. The riches of health, wealth and fulfilment. Prayer is that arsenal that helps the believer appropriate the power made available to Him by Christ Jesus. James 5:16. In the new creation, God is NEVER reactionary, He is ALWAYS provisionary. If what you’re asking for in prayer is not already done IN CHRIST, it CANNOT be done. God cannot improve on Christ, but guess what? The flip side is even more interesting… Whatever God has FINISHED in CHRIST, no amount of devils in hell can stop you from getting it in prayer. Prayer is all about SEEING from the HIGH PRIEST’S PASTpective. Have a fabulous weekend.
