Roller of Stones Emptier of Tombs
Good morning Pal,
I trust you had a restful weekend.
Today, I’ll like to share a dimension of God’s benevolence as revealed through Jesus Christ with you. This thought is capable of changing the course of your life profoundly!
Have you ever wondered why there is so much injustice, evil, wickedness, corruption and decadence in our world today? I’m sure we all think about these things every once in a while, but we have the answer encoded in Scripture.
The Spirit of The Lord breathed upon man and man became a living soul, that already suggests that living souls are a by product of the breath of God. The challenge with living souls however, is that though they are activated by the Spirit of God, they want to be sustained by another spirit. Nothing sustains your spirit better than The Spirit that birthed it. After Adam’s fall, man began a race toward a reunion with The Holy Spirit. Whilst on that journey, the soul of man began to wax evil continually and the imaginations of his heart were darkened, so much God considered destroying mankind. This decadence is a direct function of the distance of these souls from the Spirit of God. Without The Spirit of God, a restored soul will remain an eternal illusion.
So, the Psalmist says one very important thing Our Shepherd does for us is that He restores our souls. Nothing else can restore our soul other than The Spirit of God. Not money, not cars, not houses, not sex, not entertainment, not alcohol, not drugs, nothing in all of the world can restore the soul of man other than The Spirit of God.
Isaiah 61:1-4 KJV
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord , and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord , that he might be glorified. And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.
We see here, that the arena where The Lord does the most of His Redemptive work is actually in the soul of man. Our spirits get quickened as a one time experience and receives an invasion of The Holy Spirit once we get born again, but the rest of the Redemptive work is premised in the soul. Once He is done preaching the good tidings to the meek and activates our spirits, the rest of His Work is domiciled in the soul; He binds up the brokenhearted, proclaims liberty to the captives, the opening of the prison to them that are bound, declares the acceptable year of the Lord, gives oil of joy for mourning and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness…
We see how much focus Our Saviour devotes to our soul. Because only restored souls can repair breaches, repair former desolation, build old wate cities, etc. Now we see why the world is in the state that it is, souls are damaged, unrestored and distant from the restorative power in Christ Jesus.
Quickly, I’ll be sharing with you one of the most profound itineraries in the life and ministry of Jesus where all He does is to restore! The best the devil can do is replace, manipulate and augment, he never can restore. Jesus is The Only One that does not diminish from giving! Glory to God! For the devil to give you welath, he’s got to take something else from you, for him to grant you fame, something in your life has got to give… but Jesus is The One Whose Blessing makes rich and adds no sorrow to it.
Are you ready for this journey…
I’ll be doing the narrating rather than referencing because of the length of the passage involved.
In Mark 5, we see some really outstanding things that Jesus pulled off. First he goes to a city in Gadara and a man possessed with devils, otherwise known as Mad runs towards Jesus with the demons asking that he does not torment them. This man lives in tombs, crying day and night and cuts himself with stones. They had tried to bind him and restrain him with fetters, chains and irons but none of those measures are effective as he keeps overpowering those elements.
Alot of people find themselves in this state like this man. We are perpetually caught in tombs of the past, cutting ourselves with horrible memories of regrets, mistakes and abuses. We wished those things never happened, so we live perpetually in the corridors of our memory, having those gory pictures as wall arts. People have suggested counselling sessions, seeing a shrink, psychologist, psychiatrist as possible ways out of this mess… but they are only fetters, irons and chains, they don’t serve for much longer than a few days and the energy of the unrestored soul overpowers the weakness of those measures. We cry ourselves to sleep or even have to swallow meds before we can sleep. There is a certain Jesus who still rolls away stones and empties tombs, He can restore you. The unrestored soul responds only one thing, and it’s not Psychology or Self help, but Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
Once the man saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshipped Him. It doesn’t matter how much mess you find yourself, you can worship again. It doesn’t matter what life throws at you, you can worship again, it doesn’t matter what you have been through and survived, you can worship again. When you see Jesus from afar, please run towards Him! He will in no wise cast you out… except the devils!
Jesus then sends the demons out of this man, you would imagine everyone who had been trying to “fix” this man would be happy for him and keep Jesus close, instead they send Jesus away when they saw He could do what they could never do. Beware of those who seem to wish you well but get angry once you’re indeed well… Jesus was sent away for restoring a man’s soul and sanity! The Bible records that he was sitting beside Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. What a Jesus! He restores the man’s soul and sanity!!! Sometimes, it’s not enough to be seated in heavenly places and clothed with righteousness, are you in your right mind? Is your soul restored?
Then as He goes over to the other side, where there is a crowd of people waiting for Him to show up. One of them is Jarius, a ruler in the synagogue. He came to seek Jesus for his daughter who was sick. Jesus obliges him and began to motion towards Jarius’ house. While on his way, there are countless people thronging on him, but a certain woman who had been bleeding for 12 years came from behind the press to touch Him, for she said if she could but touch that hem of His Garment, she would be made whole and so it happened. As soon as she touched that hem, the bleeding ceased. Jesus turns around and asked, who touched me? Peter sarcastically responds, saying everyone is touching you, how do you mean someone touched you? But this woman knew what she did and owned up. Jesus looks at her and does the most remarkable thing in the world.
This is an outcast, an unclean woman. The leveitcal order of priesthood forbids her coming into a gathering without shouting “unclean”, so people can give way. She wasn’t to be touched. Imagine no one had touched her affectionately in 12 years. She had been bleeding for 12 years and spent all the money she had but rather than get better, she grew worse. If it took you 12 years to exhaust your earnings on a sickness, you must have been very rich. She had even lost relationships, lost dignity, lost blood, but thank God she didn’t lose hope… Jesus could have said, “Oh it’s you, that’s fine. Be made whole” and go His way, but Jesus goes a step further and calls her “Daughter”. This is the most sought after personality in Israel, Zachaeus and tax collectors wanted to have a piece of him, ladies wanted him, politicians sought him at night. Jesus was a big deal and this same Jesus looks at a woman at the bottom of the pyramid, the lowest level in the economic strata, the least of all and calls her Daughter. Getting her healed would have sufficed, but Jesus doesn’t do minimum requirement, He goes exceeding abundantly and far above. He restores her body and dignity! What a Jesus!
12 years of bleeding ceased instantly! And Dignity restored!
But don’t leave me yet…
While He was addressing the woman who just got healed, people from Jarius’ house showed up and told him not to bother Jesus anymore, that the daughter is dead! What! Dead? How? Woow. Maybe if Jesus had walked faster, He could have gotten there earlier. Maybe if that sick woman hadn’t delayed Him, He would have gotten there in good time… but wait a minute… But Jesus interrupts the message of fear and tells Jarius to only believe. Jesus walks into the house, throws out all the scorners in mourners clothing and raises the daughter from the dead! Wooow!
But wait a minute… The girl was 12 years old too?
It means the moment the woman started bleeding, the girl started living, the more she bled, the more the girl lived. When the woman started seeking Jesus, the girl got sick, when the woman got healed, the girl died. The blood she had been losing was going in the direction of that girl and now that she is healed, the girl dies. Because once she got healed, men came from the house to inform Jarius about his daughter’s death… Hmmn! This is serious!
The devil never restores. He gives by taking from another! He manipulates and distorts. It’s the devil that peddles the idea of scarcity. I cannot be more without someone becoming less, I can’t get it if someone does not lose it. I can’t be faster, if someone isn’t slower. That mindset has become pervasive in our world today. Genuine happiness for another isn’t a common place because now that someone is successful, that’s one spot less in the success league… but NO! Jesus doesn’t work that way… He goes ahead to balance the records.
He heals the woman and raises the girl! He is the Only Giver that never diminishes from Giving! He doesn’t have to take from another to bless you. Your living does not have to depend on someone else’s bleeding! That’s the devil at work, not Jesus! You both can live and be alright!
