Good morning Friends,
I trust you had an exciting weekend… Well, save the Saturday trashing in the hands of Croatia at the Russia World Cup Finals. Here’s a word of encouragement on that… Though our beginning be small, yet our latter end should greatly increase. Smiles
So today by God’s Grace, we will be sharing briefly on what I have titled Colours of Honour. One thing is certain, the way God promotes and institutes Kings on the earth is by checking the Honour code by which these men/women operate. Aywhere where honour is deficient, God’s Grace, Goodness and Fruitfulness will be largely deficient.
Honour is placing a value, higher than the casual, general or common on a person, place or thing to such a degree that it influences and conditions one’s behaviour around, perception about and response towards the object of honour. Honour in more succinct terms means understanding difference and acting accordingly. When we honour what God asks for us to honour, we get His desired reward for such obedience. There is only so far we can go in God without understanding honour and how important it is on the value chain of our relationship with Him.
I’ll be sharing few colours of Honour and I trust they will minister to your heart as you seek deeper experiences in God.
1. Honour is Sensitive to Atmospheres: it is difficult to be wise without being a man of honour. A dishonourable man is a fool in training. A fool or a dishonourable man is insensitive to atmospheres. He says whatever, acts out whatever and behaves however anywhere and anytime. They are not sensitive to atmospheres. They do not understand that some things or words are inappropriate in some places and at some times.
A man of honour is sensitive to atmospheres, times and seasons. There is really no science about this, the only way to be a man of honour is to be genuinely in pursuit of God’s perspective on life and people. Seeing the way God sees will make you a man of honour. Understanding how to perceive situations correctly is priceless… Joseph knew you don’t appear before Pharaoh with slave clothing, so he shaved and changed clothing before making that million dollar appearance before Pharaoh. Honour is a genuine understanding of difference and acting accordingly.
2. Honour Genuinely Celebrates Difference: A man of honour has no problem celebrating the excellent dimensions of another because he understands difference and acts accordingly. He will not wish he were the other person because he also honours the gift God placed in himself. When you see people who feel small because someone else is being celebrated, it’s a sign of lack of honour. Can you be sincere about your admiration of a peer and not have that nagging feeling of jealousy or covetousness? Now that’s bring honourable. An honourable leader will give his assistant the chance to take the lead in an area he knows he is deficient in, because he genuinely celebrates the difference in his deputy. An honourable person will refer a potential lead to someone he knows to be better gifted to handle the situation rather than insist on handling the client. That is why Philipp sought for Peter to minister the Spirit to those he had gotten saved. He understood difference and acted accordingly.
3. Honour Forbids Profanity: This is one point I’d like to emphasise just a little bit because I strongly feel we need more teaching in this area. When Abraham made a sacrifice to God in Genesis 15, and birds of the air wanted to “violate” that sacrifice, Abraham drove them away because Honour Forbids Profanity. Honour will not allow anyone or anything commonize or desecrate what it has hallowed or separated as God’s. I think there is a problem with becoming comfortable with allowing people profane what we honour.
If you honour God, then guard what is His jealously so no man can violate it so conveniently. Forbid some words from being used on you, your family, your friends, your country and especially your God. Don’t be the first to dishonour Nigeria and then expect a miracle to happen in order to fix it. What you honour will increase in worth. Honour your wife, honour your Church, honour your commitments, honour your parents, honour what God says to honour.
I watched several fights back in secondary school that was caused by the simple phrase “Your Father! Actually more “Your Fada!” *smiles*. Guys will fight to the extent of losing blood and sometimes teeth just to make sure no one calls profane what they have hallowed. Will you go that far with what you call God’s? Will you forbid profanity on His account? Will you chase birds away from sacrifices separated unto Him? Keep hallowed and holy what belongs to God, that is one of the purest ways to show commitment to God and His Kingdom. In Kingdom dynamics, once you acknowledge the throne room where God abides, the next on the value chain is to Hallow His name… As that is the attitude that brings His kingdom to bear on the earth.
Honour will place you exactly where God wants you to be. An honourable man can never miss God because he is always in pursuit of how to please Him.
1 Samuel 2:30 (KJV) Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house and the house of thy Father, should walk before me forever; but now the Lord saith, be it far from me; for them that honour me, I will honour, and they that despise me, shall be lightly esteemed.
I hope these thoughts blessed your heart. God bless your heart. Have a remarkable week ahead.
