Unfettered Authority

by Damilola Oguntunde

Good morning Divine Perspective Readers. Isn’t it beautiful to be a Christian? It is such a beauty! Sometimes I wonder how those who aren’t survive in this very perverse world. The Word of God makes it clear that if our Gospel is hidden, it is only hidden to them that are lost, in whom the god of this world (the devil) has blinded the minds of them that believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel should shine on them. The gospel is a very glorious one. It is one of a Ridiculous Love and an Unfettered Authority. When we preach the gospel, people should find it difficult to remain on their seats. It’s such a glorious message of Grace, Mercy and Hope. Today we will zoom in a bit on our Unfettered Authority as believers. While meditating on the Word of God, it just suddenly dawned on me that Jesus never needs to pray in His name. Imagine Jesus saying “ In Jesus name…” He never needs to use His name as a spiritual tender, and then it occurred to me that EVERYTHING Jesus came to do on earth was so that He could obtain a NAME for the Church. I’ll explain what I mean. Jesus was already God before He became man, but He was God The Word. He had all the authority in heaven and on earth, He ruled magnificently in the creation process. He was God, saddled with all the authority He could ever possibly need. If there was any authority, He had it. There was nothing made without Him that was made… now that is authority.

John 1:1 KJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

John 17:5 (KJV) And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

God is Love, Just and Righteous and He wanted to get man’s authority back for him, but couldn’t get that authority back on God vs devil terms, because that would have been a mismatch and it would have been unjust. A man bequeathed his authority to the devil, only a man could retrieve it. Now we see the “dilemma” of the Godhead. No man could effect that recovery from the enemy since all men had in them the sinful adamic nature… the dilemma of the Godhead! So God said to THEMSELVES, one of us has to become a man, only our nature can retrieve man’s authority back to him. Man alone had the legal right to walk the earth and have dominion in the earth, but God alone had the spiritual requirement (Sinlessness) to retrieve the lost authority. Therefore a GodMan came out of that conversation in the throne room of the Triune God. His name is JESUS; the GodMan. He had the undefiled seed of God, and the humanity of man. The devil could not question His humanity, else he would have. Jesus came forth from the womb of a woman, but conceived by the seed of God’s Word incubated by the Holy Ghost. He came, walked the earth, sinless and holy and then the real deal lied ahead of Him… He was to die, go to hell and strip the enemy of all the authority he had exploited man of all these years. Why did He go through all of that?

Phil 2:6 (KJV) Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the LIKENESS OF MEN: 8 And being FOUND IN FASHION AS A MAN, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Heb 1:4 (KJV) 4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

Jesus is the name of The Word that became flesh, and He was to ever retain that identity. Jesus is still a man, even in heaven as we speak. He still got the scars on his feet and hands, He still intercedes for us. (See the book; Beautiful Scars). He was NEVER to return to the former identity He had before the creation of the world, His eternal destiny had been altered by a move He made in love for humanity. He went ahead and OBTAINED a name that was more excellent than the name of angels. He obtained this name as a man, and only men can use that name. As a matter of fact, he couldn’t be given authority on earth if he wasn’t a man.

John 5:27 (KJV) And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, BEACUSE HE IS THE SON OF MAN.

He obtained that name for humanity. Those who have been translated from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of Light, those who are part of the glorious bunch called The Church. Only these men can wield the power in the name of JESUS. That name was gotten for us, not for Himself. If Philippians 2 says wherefore God hath highly exalted Him and given Him a name that is above every name, was it because The Word was not above every name before the foundation of the world? No The Word had always been God, but for Godhead to retrieve man’s lost authority, the name required for ALL authority on earth had to be the name of a man, that name is JESUS. That is the most powerful Man’s name in the whole of eternity. So when I mention that name, I’m not riding on my holiness or power or class, I am riding on the eternal authority of the Christ. That authority never fades, never goes out of fashion, never cedes to any other force. It is a mountain that cannot be moved! He gave The Church that name. He obtained that name for The Church. That name needs no use in heaven, for what would you need it? Cast out devils? Heal the sick? Calm the storms? Raise the dead? There are no devils in Heaven, no sicknesses there, no storms and definitely no dead men. All are alive, well and in Light. That name was obtained for us right here on earth. You have kept that name on the shelf for too long. It can do so much more than you could ever think or imagine. In that name is UNFETTTERED AUTHORITY, obtained for you and me. Let’s make His travail worth it, let’s use that name and lets use it NOW.

Eph 1:22 (NLT) 22 God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE CHURCH. 23 And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.
