Good morning Friend. I trust you had a great weekend. By God’s grace, today we would be continuing on our series on the Leadership of the Spirit, but zero in on the place of the desires of our hearts. Does God lead His children through the desires of their hearts? Does God trust us enough to lead us through the desires of our hearts? The general assumption about this is that there is no good in man and all the thoughts and desires of man are continually evil, therefore man can not be trusted with leading himself… Yes this is true… But only for the unregenerate man. A man without the Spirit of God has absolutely no control over his own desires and will. There is a spirit that works in the children of disobedience and that spirit determines their desires and hence pursuit.
Ephesians 2:2-3 (KJV) Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
That spirit is called the prince of the power of the air. It dominates them and controls their desires. However for us believers, we are no longer controlled by that spirit, we have been transferred into another kingdom where God is the one at work within us, working that which is well pleasing in HIS sight.
Phil 2:13 (KJV) For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure
Hebrews 13:20-21 (KJV) Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, note
21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom beglory for ever and ever. Amen.
It is possible for a believer to get that point where his desires and God’s desires are on the same frequency. It is possible for a Christian to be simply thinking his own thoughts and it’s the exact same thoughts on God’s infinite mind. How is this possible?
Psalms 37:4 (KJV) Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
The Psalmist said if we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will grant us the desires… not of His heart, but of our own heart. Now that’s profound! Can we grow and mature to the extent that we will think of what to do, and those thoughts will be God thoughts? That is the place God wants us to be. That was where Adam was before the fall. He didn’t have to ask God… “Daddy, what would you have me call this creepy subtle animal?” and I’m sure God didn’t have to respond by saying “Snake… you dummy! Isn’t that obvious enough?”. See, everything Adam called the animals were the exact same things God would have called those animals. Adam called them by name without an outright consultation with his Father. What happened however is that because he had so fellowshipped with the Father, he had no other reality of existence in his life apart from the Father’s presence, there was no way his thoughts could be corrupted.
John 15:5 (KJV) If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
God wants you to desire to do His will without compulsion or fear of consequence. You delight in the Lord by staying in His Word, Never let it depart from you and then your emotions, thought processes and perspective about life will begin to align with God’s and then gradually you become mature because you have exercised you senses by the Word to discern between what to do and what not to do.
This is not a principle that can be taught in a hurry, but I trust that a seed has been planted today. This does not mean you will get to a point in your Christian walk where you would never have to pray for directions, however I am saying that it becomes increasingly easier for you to discern what God is saying without several days of fasting and prayer on mountains to go up to God… because you never leave His presence in the first place. This is where God wants us to be and I trust God to perfect what He has started in our lives in Jesus name.
I love you.
Have a wonderful week ahead.
