The Lasting Factor

by Damilola Oguntunde

Good morning Friend,

I trust you had a great weekend.

Today by God’s Grace, I’ll be sharing with you some of the insights from the Series of teaching we started in Church; An Enduring House. I believe strongly you will find them very insightful.

The first thing I want to establish here is that in God’s economy, you are seen as either a plant or a building. The Bible calls us God’s Husbandry and God’s Building. 1 Cor 3:9, Isaiah 61:1-4, Psalms 1:1-4

God sees us as His Husbandry and as His Building, and that should inform us as to how we need to begin to process our developments. The challenge however is that many believers don’t see themselves as God’s Planting or God’s building, they see something like God’s flower or God’s upholstery. The way a Husbandry is nurtured to full bloom through prunings and cuttings should tell us how we are to see the processes God takes us through. The emphasis on the foundation of a building should give us understanding.

Roots are not the most attractive part of a plant but they are the most essential. We live in a generation where folks are primarily dirven by what they see, and no one sees the root of a plant by observation, same way no one sees the foundation of a structure to admire… Because of this tendencies, believers are mostly tempted to jump over processes that ought to get their roots firmly rooted and their foundation established while seeking the limelight.

What will make any plant last, is not the attractiveness of the fruits or petals, it is the depth of its roots. What will make a building stand the test of time is not the beauty of its structure and interiors, it’s in the solidity of its foundation. Many a believer do not know this, so they undermine the priority of process.

Without these processes properly undergone to strengthen our roots and foundations, we will be creating edifices that cannot stand in the day of adversity.

In my observation of the pattern of Scripture, there is one thing that is responsible for the solidity, stability and endurance of any plant or building that will last; Wisdom!

Proverbs 24:3-4: Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Isaiah 33:6 And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the Lord is his treasure.

Proverbs 3:19 The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens

Wisdom is at the foundation of everything that will last. The earth is still standing today because by Wisdom God founded the earth. Any house not built by wisdom will be pulled down by folly.

So there is a parable Jesus gave about a wise man and a foolish man in Matthew 7:24-27. Jesus says the wise man hears his sayings and does them and therefore is likened to a man who builds his house on a rock, and the rain descended, the floods came and the winds blew and beat upon that house and it fell not… But there was another man, who wasn’t quite as wise who hears Jesus’s sayings and doesn’t do them, he is likened to a man who builds his house on the sand… And the exact same things came for that house… Rain, Flood and Wind… And great was the fall of it, because it was built on the sand.

So we see how vital Wisdom is in building any system, family, business, institution or nation that will last? Wisdom is a major lasting factor!

So what is Wisdom? I’ll say simply that Wisdom is the operating system of God. If God’s economy were an Apple PC, Wisdom is the IOS. Wisdom is God’s ideology revealed via His Words.

How does a man enter into Wisdom? The Bible says that it is the fear of God that grants a man entrance into Wisdom. It is the beginning of it. So without the fear of God, one cannot say he even knows what wisdom is all about. Now, what is the fear of God?

The fear of God is not being scared of God’s Presence… No living man who loves his life will not fear the presence of God. Even the demons tremble at His presence. The sea saw His Presence and fled, the mountains saw it and skipped like ram, the little hills skipped as little lambs, just at the presence of This God. No one sees Him and lives… He is a Fearful God. The fear of His presence is not the same as the fear of God. The fear of God is simply placing priority on God’s Word… This is the reason why the fear of God is the beginning of Wisdom. Remember Wisdom is God’s ideology revealed via His Words? So, any man who doesn’t place priority on God’s Word has no chance of being Wise.

Wisdom is not intellectual! You don’t gain wisdom by reading or by simply observing… You gain it by asking from the owner of Wisdom; The Ancient of Days; The only Wise God. He is not the Wisest God, He is the Only Wise! Glory to God forever. If any man demonstrates Wisdom, it is because He gave him.

James 1:5-8 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

If Wisdom could be gained by other means, Solomon would not have needed to ask God for it. If it came by observation, Moses wouldn’t have needed to lay hands on Joshua to get it. If any man lacks Wisdom, you have no business thinking or reading, you should be asking from the owner of it.

So remember, that Wisdom begins with the fear of God and the fear of God is putting priority on God’s Word. In the final analysis of our lives, only The Word will stand. All other things will pass away, but not a jot of His Word will go unfulfilled, therefore it is to the degree that we have mixed and joined with His Word that we are incorruptible and enduring.

By the next post, I’ll be sharing on how Wisdom helps us to mitigate the threats from The Wind, The Storm and The Rain.
